The Goal
Redesign an outdated 1 bedroom apartment in uptown NYC for an art collector.
The Proposal
A full gut renovation which included brand new designs for the kitchen, bathroom, and refinishing of living room and bedroom. The kitchen was refreshed with custom white oak cabinetry against monolithic porcelain backsplash and quartz countertop. An opening was made between the kitchen and the living room to provide a visual connection and easily entertain guests. Many of the original Art Deco elements, such as the curved portals in the hallway and the rounded wood step at the sunken living room, were kept to preserve the apartment’s rich architectural history. The existing living room window frames and bathroom recessed laundry basket were completely stripped to expose the original metal.
What I Worked On
I designed and specified all finishes, fixtures, appliances and furniture. I provided construction documents, issued project for bid, and reviewed budget and proposals. During construction, I responded to requests for information with sketches and visited the job site periodically to ensure all work was built per construction documents.
Fun fact – my colleague and I fabricated and installed all of the millwork.
